Dinky Di Red Centre Pub Trail

Pub Trails:

Capture the spirit of Australia's Red Centre with a pubtrail taking you from Woomera to Ayer's Rock, King's Canyon, Alice Springs and the home of Dinky the Dingo

The stuart highway stretches from Port Augusta in the south thru to Darwin in the far north of Australia. But along the trail, there are the significant points of interest out to Ayer's Rock and the MacDonnell ranges surrounding Alice Springs.

This pubtrail takes in the southern half of the Stuart Highway, setting sail from Port Augusta and trekking up to the spectacular gorges, chasms and creeks of the MacDonnell Ranges, and back again via some colorful roadhouses of the Stuart Highway. And of course, the biggest rock of them all, Ayer's Rock, accompanied by The Olga's and nearby King's Canyon.

Get ready for some thirsty travelling country - but as usual, well rewarded!

To really set the mood for this trip, we highly recommend reading the history of the making of the major central/western tracks of the area, thanks to the late Len Beadell who established the Woomera firing range (1500km of outback in a straight line clear thru to the WA coast). Another great pioneer of the Red Centre were Jack and Elsie Cotterill who established the tourism that is today, Ayer's Rock (Uluru), along with Jack's Son, Jim Cotterill, the true founder of King's Canyon (Watarrka), and now a colourful character, owner of Stuart's Well just 80km south of Alice Springs where we highly recommend you stay a night to become acquainted with the genuine history of the region, along with 'Dinky' the Dingo who enjoys playing the piano with four paws!.
