Boulia ancestory

9 March 2012

"Hi,

My name is Kaylene Balanzategui and I'm researching my family tree. I was wondering if you knew any information about two pubs that I think don't exist any more. My great grandmother Mrs Agnes Eveline Springthorpe HASTED was the licensed victualler of the Min Min Hotel via Boulia. From the little information I have she was there from 1914 to 1924 when it got burned down (though some people have recorded it as being burned down in 1918). I have records of her son George William Hasted being married to Gladys Frances Beauchamp on 17.4.1918 at the hotel. I believe it was a very rough and tough era especially out there. Mrs Hasted had 12 children, the youngest was born in 1910 and died in 1940 and she was my grandmother (my father was born in 1930 and was 10 when she died) My father was brought up by his grandmother, Mrs Hasted.

I have Mrs Agnes Eveline Springthorpe HASTED 's death certificate and it says she died at the Hamilton Hotel Winton Boulia Road 54 miles from Boulia and that she was buried on the 10 February 1953 in the Hamilton Hotel Cemetery. I have read only little which mentions the Hamilton Hotel ruins.

Do you know any of the history of these two pubs other than the Min Min Lights for which the area is famous for or if there are any graves at the Hamilton Hotel ruins. My great grandmother was married to a George Hasted, a carrier it says on his death certificate (he isn't mentioned a lot but he must have been around at least 12 times with all the kids she had) and he died in 1939 in Townsville which is also the time my grandmother died so Mrs Hasted went from Min Min to Townsville and then back out to Hamilton Hotel Boulia in her later life where she died at the age of 86. She must have been a tough old bird in her day – that why I'm doing the research on her.

Any help would be appreciated – old photos other than the one posted of what is left of the Min Min pub would be great to see.

Thanks, Kaylene'

Hope we get a response, Ed
