Macknade is a rural town and coastal locality in the Shire of Hinchinbrook, Queensland, Australia. Located on the Herbert River near the South Pacific Ocean, approximately 1200km northwest of Brisbane, this small community has a rich sugar industry heritage.
The town's pioneering sugar mill had its first crushing in 1874 and was later acquired by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. A strong Italian community developed, with Italian families owning many of the local cane farms by the 1920s.
