Perched atop stunning red coastal cliffs where the coast meets rolling farmland, Ardrossan is a historic port popular with holiday makers for its fishing, beaches and laidback lifestyle.

An easy 90-minute drive from Adelaide on the east coast of Yorke Peninsula, Ardrossan sits on top of imposing red cliffs providing excellent views of Gulf St Vincent.

The town was proclaimed in 1873 and named by Governor Fergusson after Ardrossan in Ayrshire, Scotland. The thriving town has a population of approximately 1100 people.

Travel options

There's no public transport, buses or trains that run to Ardrossan so car is your only option. The town is an easy 90-minute drive from Adelaide and about a 52-kilometre diversion from Pt Wakefield via the B85 and B86 taking approximately half an hour. There are also occasional ferries from Adelaide that come here. For the self contained traveller, there is a dump point and a small RV overnight stay area in West Terrace.
