Amber fluid ready to flow again in Timboon

IT may have been the town with no beer, but from Monday the golden liquid will start flowing from Timboon pub's taps again.

Locals were mystified when the town's only pub closed without explanation earlier this year.

Former publican Tim Kelson later revealed he "just couldn't afford to keep it propped up".

But Warrnambool hotelier Graeme Welsh, who has taken on the near century-old pub's leasehold, believes he can turn the watering hole's fortunes around.

Mr Welsh yesterday told The Standard that gearing up the pub to trade again was a challenge.

"It's a lot more work than I realised. It's been a real battle but we are getting there," Mr Welsh said.

"We have had to get all the amenities back on. There was no phone, no power and no gas. We have also had to flush out the beer lines and there's been no hot water.

"Hopefully in six months' time we will look back on this and it will all be worth it."
